Shira Kates advises global brands, small agencies, and startups on design leadership as a fractional or interim design and product leader. She works closely with senior executives and design staff to establish or evolve design practice and process. Her work takes different forms, from coaching designers and advising leaders to design sprint and yearly or quarterly strategy summit facilitation. Shira has two decades of experience in the Bay Area tech world in various roles from Coder, to Product Manager, to Content Strategist, Techwomen Mentor (U.S State Department), and Design Leader for ubiquitous global brands. She founded two design agencies and a consultancy. Some of her clients include: Yeti.co (mobile app agency), Orchid Labs (blockchain & Internet Privacy), Weight Watchers, AT&T Interactive, Travel Channel, and Razorfish.
Shira is a graduate of the groundbreaking Design MBA program at California College of the Arts. After completing her graduate program in 2013, Shira took a role at Google working with Maps and immersive Search teams to develop UI text, content standards, and taxonomies. Shira then joined Brightroll, a dynamic ad tech startup, as the Head of UX, where she led a team of designers and researchers through acquisition and integration at Yahoo, where she served as Director of Product for the Ads & Data Division. She left Yahoo in 2017 to develop her consulting business.
